Kozhevnikov: in the absence of Russia, Canada’s level of motivation at the World Cup has noticeably decreased
Olympic champion as a member of the USSR national team, Alexander Kozhevnikov, connected with Russia the level of play of the Canadian team at the World Hockey Championship. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to Kozhevnikov, in the absence of the Russian team, Canada’s level of motivation has noticeably decreased. “They have a different interest in the World Cup: they come more to relax. It worked out – good, didn’t work out – no big deal. If the Russian national team had played at the tournament, they would have had a different attitude,” he said.
In 2024, the Canadians reached the semi-finals of the tournament, where they lost to the Swiss in shootouts (the final score in the match was 2:3). The teams of Switzerland and the Czech Republic will compete for gold medals on May 26.
The 2024 World Cup is taking place in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic. The national teams of Russia and Belarus are missing the tournament due to sanctions from the International Hockey Federation. In addition, fans were prohibited from bringing any symbols of the two countries into the stands.
