Roman Shirokov advised Russian players not to rush to move to Europe

Former captain of the Russian national football team Roman Shirokov gave advice to young players who want to go to the European championships. His words are quoted by Metaratings.

In his opinion, you need to go abroad as ready-made football players. Shirokov cited Monaco midfielder Alexander Golovin as an example. “I immediately became one of the leaders. Maybe not the main star, but when he first arrived there, he was one of the main leaders,” said the ex-football player.

He also called on Russian football players to think about who raised them. “Before, people went there for money, but now why go there? Develop their sport, or what? Or were you not raised, raised in the Russian Federation with the money of Russian taxpayers? You probably need to first of all repay your debt to the team that raised you,” Shirokov said.

Last September, the head coach of the Russian national team, Valery Karpin, called on Russian players to leave for European clubs. The coach added that he feels the difference between the level of the national team players who play in Europe and those who remain at home.
