Jon Arrinda, founder and first president in the history of Bilbao Basket, has died at the age of 91as reported this Friday by the Biscayan club.
Jon Arrinda was also president, in the 1980s, of Caja Bilbao, which also competed for several seasons in the highest category of Spanish basketball. In 2000, he founded Bilbao Basket, which achieved its first promotion to the ACB in 2004; The Bilbao team has played in the top category uninterruptedly since then, except for the 2018-19 campaign.
His son, Gorka Arrinda, led Bilbao Basket for several years, after taking over from his father.
