Usik will ask to retain his title of absolute world champion

Boxer Usik will ask the IBF to leave him the belt and the title of absolute world champion

Ukrainian Alexander Usyk will ask the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to leave him the organization’s belt. This was announced by the athlete’s promoter Alexander Krasyuk, as reported by World Boxing News.

“Of course, we will ask the IBF for such an exception,” Krasyuk said. This will allow Usyk to retain the title of absolute world champion, which he must lose, since he will not defend the IBF title with mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic.

Usik fought for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion with Briton Tyson Fury on the night of May 19. The fight in Saudi Arabia lasted all 12 rounds and ended with the victory of the Ukrainian by a split decision – 115-112, 113-114, 114-113.

Usik remained undefeated, winning his 22nd fight in the professional ring. For Fury, the defeat was the first in his career; before that, he had 34 wins and a draw.
