Footballer Chervyakov: I want to play in Russia, so I gave up my Ukrainian passport

Ukrainian footballer of the Moscow Torpedo Ruslan Chervyakov, in a conversation with a Lenta.ru correspondent, explained the renunciation of citizenship for the sake of performing in Russia.

The athlete said that according to Russian law he can have two passports, but he wants to play for the Russian national team, so he renounced his sports citizenship of Ukraine. “The way there is closed to me. My dream is to stand in a Russian national team jersey during the national anthem with my right hand on the coat of arms. I fall asleep with this thought,” he added.

Chervyakov has been playing for Torpedo since the summer of 2023. Before that, he represented the Ukrainian Dnepr, Shakhtar and Ingulets.

Earlier, Ukrainian footballer Arthur Murza, who plays for the Russian club Murom from the Second League, described his attitude towards Russia. “I was brought up on friendship between Ukrainians and Russians. Russia will always be a brotherly country for me,” he shared.
