48-year-old Chusovitina, who competed for the USSR, will not take part in her ninth Olympic Games
Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, who competed for the USSR national team, will not be able to compete at her ninth Olympics. The athlete announced this on her Instagram (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
The gymnast noted that at the qualifying competitions for the Games in Tashkent she received an injury on floor exercises, which will not allow her to continue fighting for a ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. “I’m very sorry, because I prepared very hard and for a long time for these competitions. I returned to all-around and wanted to perform at home in front of our fans,” said Chusovitina.
Chusovitina has been performing professionally since 1990. She made history as the only gymnast to compete in eight Olympic Games (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020).
At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, the athlete as part of the Unified Team won a gold medal in the team competition. At the 2008 Games in Beijing, Chusovitina, representing Germany, became a silver medalist in the vault.
