Coach Gian Piero Gasperini held a press conference this Tuesday and analyzed Atalanta’s title possibilities in the Europa League. The Italian club faces Bayer Leverkusen this Wednesday, at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland, in the final of the competition.
“Bayer is a strong team, there is no doubt about that. Not only because of the results, but because of the solutions that led them to extraordinary results. We know their strength, but we will try to make the best of it. We also have the ability to create problems for Bayer “, he said.
Bayer Leverkusen, champion of the German Championship, is undefeated in the current season. The team led by coach Xabi Alonso has played 51 games, 42 wins and nine draws in 2023/24.
“We will have to perform precisely and carefully, we will have to bring the game to our side and adapt immediately to the opponent. In a final you don’t have time. We are proud of what we have done so far, but I am convinced that we can always do something more”, said Gasperini.

The 66-year-old coach also spoke about supporting Atalanta in Italy.
“There are a lot of people who will support us, we represent Italy and we will try to do it well. It’s an extra motivation.”
Last Wednesday, Atalanta was defeated by Juventus 1-0 in the Italian Cup final. Furthermore, the duel against Leverkusen will be the first final in competitions organized by UEFA in the history of the Italian club. Gasperini commented on whether this could hinder the team.
“We played some important matches. Some were not so favorable, but others were equally good. Overall, we have a good record and we are used to these games”, he reported.
On the other hand, this will also be Bayer Leverkusen’s first decision in the Europa League. Despite the German team having won the UEFA Cup in 1988 and reaching the Champions League final in 2002, when they were defeated by Real Madrid.
