Former Feyenoord Arne Slot announced as Liverpool’s new coach

Liverpool officially announced this Monday the hiring of Arne Slot as the team’s new coach, replacing Jurgen Klopp. The new coach, whose contract with the Reds will be valid for the next three seasons, will take charge from June 1st.

With the announcement of Klopp’s departure from Liverpool, the club’s search for a new manager was incessant, culminating in a large number of rumors and candidates. Slot was chosen for his short but fruitful work at the helm of Feyenoord. According to the English press, Liverpool paid 11 million euros (around R$61 million at current prices) to the Dutch to release the coach, who still had a contract valid for another two seasons.

Arne Slot, 45, is Dutch and has never coached a club outside his home country. He began his career as a coach just over ten years ago, when he was in charge of Zwolle’s youth teams. Slot worked as a technical assistant at Cambuur and AZ Alkmar, where he was hired in 2019 and had his first experience coaching a first professional team.

The Dutchman gained prominence when he arrived at Feyenoord in 2021. He reached the Conference League final in his first season, losing to José Mourinho’s Roma, won the Dutch Championship in the 2022/23 season and the Dutch Cup in the current season .

Despite the great legacy that Klopp leaves behind in England, Liverpool hope to repeat the perfect choice they made almost a decade ago, hiring a young coach to lead a new project at the helm of the team in the coming years.
