Foden decides, Manchester City beats West Ham and wins fourth English championship

This Saturday, Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1, at the Etihad Stadium, in the last round of the English Championship and won the competition title for the fourth consecutive time. The goals were scored by Phil Foden (2) and Rodri, for the home team, and Mohammed Kudus, for the visitors.

With the result, the team led by coach Pep Guardiola finished the national league in first place, with 91 points. This was the tenth trophy won by City, which becomes the competition’s fourth biggest winner, behind only Manchester United (20), Liverpool (19) and Arsenal (13). West Ham ended the Premier League in ninth place, with 52 points.

Now, Manchester City is focusing on the FA Cup final, against Manchester United, which will be played next Saturday, at 11am (Brasília time), at Wembley. While West Ham played their last game of the season.

The game

Right at the beginning of the game, two minutes into the first half, Manchester City opened the scoring. Phil Foden received the ball in the middle, cut to the left and hit a beautiful shot into the left corner to find the net.

The home team continued to press after the first goal and increased in the 17th minute. After a good exchange of passes, Doku advanced on the left and passed it to Foden, who finished first time to score the second of the match.

In the 42nd minute, Mohammed Kudus pulled one back for West Ham. After a corner kick and a dispute in the area, the ball fell to the midfielder, who lifted the ball and hit a beautiful shot to score a great goal.

Manchester City started the second half with pressure and increased their lead in the 13th minute. Rodri received a pass from Foden near the box and shot low into the right corner to give the home team peace of mind.

West Ham scored the second, in the 43rd minute, but the goal was disallowed. After a corner kick, Tomás Soucek threw the ball into the net with his arm and the goal was invalidated after the VAR review.

Arsenal beat Everton, but don’t keep the trophy

Competing with Manchester City in the fight for the title, Arsenal did their part and beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kai Havertz scored for the home team and Idrissa Gueye scored for the visitors.

However, with the victory of the team led by Guardiola, the Gunners’ result was not enough to lift the cup. The London team needed a stumble from the Citizens to win the title. Thus, Arsenal ends the competition in second place, with 89 points.

With the end of the Premier League, those classified for the next Champions League were: Manchester City, who won the title with 91 points, Arsenal (2nd), with 89, Liverpool (3rd), with 82, and Aston Villa (4th) , with 68.

While Tottenham (5th), who beat Sheffield United 3-0 away from home, reached 66 points and secured their place in the Europa League.

Relegated

Those relegated from the English Championship were Luton Town (18th), with 26 points, Burnley (19th), with 24, and Sheffield United (20th), with 16.
