Nurmagomedov arrived in the UAE, where he joined Makhachev’s training camp
Former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Khabib Nurmagomedov arrived in the UAE, where he joined the training camp of Islam Makhachev, who is facing a title fight with American Dustin Poirier. Nurmagomedov announced this on his Instagram (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
“Just landed. 14 days before the fight,” Nurmagomedov wrote. The former champion did not specify exactly what role he will play in the camp.
After completing his fighting career, Nurmagomedov repeatedly acted as a coach and second for Makhachev, but later announced the end of his coaching career. The athlete stated that he had completely abandoned everything related to MMA and asked for understanding of his decision.
On May 16, Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz spoke about the Russian’s preparation for the fight against Poirier. “I have been in Islam Makhachev’s training camp for two weeks now. He does whatever he wants with everyone here. This is the greatest UFC fighter to date,” said Abdel-Aziz.
Makhachev and Poirier will meet in the main event of UFC 302 in the UAE on June 1. The UFC lightweight title held by the Russian will be at stake.
32-year-old Makhachev spent 26 fights in his professional career, losing in only one of them. In total, he has 25 victories, 16 of which are early. The 35-year-old Poirier has 30 wins and eight losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
