Boxer Usyk said he had been planning to defeat Tyson Fury since 2008

Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik commented on his victory over Briton Tyson Fury in the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. His words are quoted by Sports Illustrated.

“This is a great opportunity for me, my family and my country. I’ve been planning this since 2008. Not for the sake of victory, but for my God, my fans, my country, parents and children,” said the athlete. He thanked his opponent and his team, adding that he now wants to spend time with his family.

On the night of May 19, Usik defeated Fury in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia. The fight lasted all 12 rounds. It ended with Usik winning by split decision – 115-112, 113-114, 114-113.

This is Fury’s first defeat in his professional career after 34 wins and 1 draw. Usik won his 22nd fight in the professional ring and remains undefeated.
