Former striker Robin van Persie announced as new coach of Dutch club

Robin van Persie, a former striker renowned in European football, is the new coach of Heerenveen, a club that competes in the Dutch First Division. The announcement was made by the Dutch team, this Friday morning.

“The coaching profession is comprehensive and challenging, I do it with great passion and pleasure. I would like to continue to develop, and the role of head coach fits perfectly with this objective”, said the new commander.

“I am very pleased with the opportunity that Heerenveen is offering me. Heerenveen is a club with a rich tradition and loyal fans. It is a fantastic challenge to be able to contribute to the club’s ambitions and sporting development as head coach,” he added.

At 40, this will be Van Persie’s first opportunity as head coach of a professional team. Previously he was at Feyenoord, in the Netherlands, where he led the under-18 team.

As a player, the Dutchman had a successful career. He had spells at Arsenal, Manchester United and Fenerbahce, in addition to Feyenoord, the club from which he retired in 2019.

A move that really marked Robin van Persie’s career happened at the 2014 World Cup, held in Brazil. In a game between the Netherlands and Spain, still in the group stage, the striker scored a great goal, in which the ball went over goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

In the statement released by Heerenveen, it was also informed that the presentation of the new coach will take place next Tuesday.
