Zhurova: there is no data on the number of athletes from the Russian Federation expected at the Olympic Games 2024
There is currently no data on the number of Russian athletes expected at the 2024 Olympic Games, said State Duma deputy and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova. So, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, she answered a question about the number of athletes from Russia at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“No one will say this now, not even the International Olympic Committee itself. I can’t even say conjecturally, because the qualifications are still ongoing. At the same time, commissions have been created, which, I think, will watch each of our athletes several times until the last moment. And as I understand it, the final recommendations should be made by the Ukrainian Olympic Committee. And they are already looking for clues to prevent this or that athlete from being admitted,” Zhurova said.

Rima Batalova, a member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, also spoke about the athletes preparing to participate in the Olympics in a conversation with Lenta.ru. According to her, the team of Russian athletes has not yet been formed.
“There are still some qualifying competitions going on. Therefore, it is too early to talk about it,” she added.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status. However, they will not be able to take part in the parade of delegations at the opening ceremony of the Games.
