Stankovic will take office from the 2024/2025 season. Vladimir Slishkovich, who is now acting as head coach, will continue to work on the coaching staff.
On April 14, Guillermo Abascal was fired from the post of head coach of Spartak. He has been working with the red-whites since the summer of 2022. In the 2022/2023 season, the team under his leadership became the bronze medalist of the Russian Championship.
After 23 rounds of the current national championship, Spartak is in fifth position with 46 points. The team is seven points behind the leading Dynamo Moscow. The red-whites were eliminated from the Russian Cup, losing to Baltika Kaliningrad in the semi-finals.
