Almost a thousand athletes will participate in the Zegama-Aizkorri mountain race

Almost a thousand athletes will participate on the day May 26 in the mountain race Zegama-Aizkorri. A total of 543 athletes, 87 of them women, will compete in the marathon; 143 people, 38 of them women, will compete in the Junior category; and 272 people, of which 52 are women, will do so in the KB category.

In a press conference in San Sebastián, the organizer of the test, Maialen Arizkorretahighlighted that female participation “has grown a lot in recent years, reaching 16% in the main event, 19% in the KB category and 26% in the Junior category.”

Accompanied by the provincial deputy for Mobility, Tourism and Territorial Planning, Azahara Domínguez, the provincial deputy for Culture, Cooperation, Youth and Sports, Goizane Álvarez, and the mayor of Zegama, Iker Zubeldia, Arizkorreta recalled that this race counts the Golden Trail Word Series will feature, one more year, the participation of the record-breaking man of the race, Kilian Jornetwhich in addition to having ten victories, in 2022 achieved a time of three hours, 36 minutes and 40 seconds.

In addition, the current champion will be mentioned in the race Manuel Merillas, Elhousine Elazzaoui, Davide Magnini, Robert Pkemoi, Alain Santamaria and Jan Margaritamong other proper names.

In the women’s category, last year’s winner will not miss the event, Daniela Oemus. Along with her, athletes such as Sophia Laukli, Caitlin Fielder (second last year), Malen Osa and Sara Alonso will bid for victory.

Among the Basque athletes, the organizer has highlighted the names of Aritz Egea, Ander Iñarra, Borja Zubizarreta, Arnatz Artola, Ander Gerrikaetxebarria and Aitor Zunzunegi in the men’s category and Sara Alonso, Malen Osa, Ainara Urrutia, Lide Urrestarazu and Oihana Zubillaga in feminine.
