Tension marks Juventus’ victory in the Italian Cup

Juventus won the Italian Cup for the 15th time in its history this Wednesday (15), by defeating Atalanta 1-0 in the final played at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Serbian Dusan Vlahovic scored the only goal of the match, just 4 minutes into the first half. He also scored in the 73rd minute, but the goal was disallowed.

With this title, the ‘Old Lady’ reinforces its dominance in the Italian Cup, now with six advantages over Roma and Inter Milan, who each have nine.

Juventus’ last victory in the ‘Coppa’ was in 2021, with a victory over Atalanta, 2-1.

Juve, in free fall in the Italian Championship (4th place after five consecutive draws), has not won a trophy since 2021, a rare fast in its recent history.

Barely in Serie A, Juventus arrived for the match with the feeling of a defeated team and left feeling relieved, giving fans joy in a season with more disappointments than good moments.

“We suffered a lot this season. We didn’t reach our goal of winning the Scudetto [ser campeĆ£o da Serie A]. Next year we will have to win everything”, wished Vlahovic after the victory.

Atalanta have only been champions of the Italian Cup once, in 1963, and will have to keep waiting.

But the Bergamo team’s next big opportunity to turn the page and lift an important trophy will be in a week’s time, in Dublin, Ireland, in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, German champions and undefeated this season.

This will be the great motivation for ‘Dea’, along with the mission to maintain at least fifth place in Serie A to qualify for the next Champions League. At the moment, the team has a three-point advantage over Roma.

The nervousness of the decision affected Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, who ended up being expelled for his attitude and furious protests. Out of his mind, Allegri gestured when he received the red card, took off his suit and tie and walked back and forth, out of control, before entering the dressing room.

“My irritation? It’s something normal in a final, in a match with so much at stake. When you win a trophy the emotion is truly unique, it was a great final in a wonderful stadium, with two great teams,” he said, more calm, at the press conference.

Despite having achieved this ‘Coppa’ title, the Italian press points to the possibility of him being fired from his position at the end of the season and replaced by Italian-Brazilian Thiago Motta, who led Bologna to the Champions League.
