The State Duma named the main problem of Russian sports

Deputy Svishchev called the main problem of Russian sports underfunding

The main problem of Russian sports is insufficient funding, says Dmitry Svishchev, head of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports. He shared his opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“All those programs that the Minister of Sports Mikhail Vladimirovich reported on [Дегтярев], require funding. Even free sports, even the organization of new stadiums and venues, is a huge amount of money. Everyone understands perfectly well that sports today are underfunded, and Mikhail Vladimirovich and I just said when we approved his candidacy at the committee that the most important thing is to return funding for sports to a decent level. Now there is not enough money to implement all the programs that the sports community, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the President set for us,” said Svishchev.

Earlier, the State Duma spoke about possible changes under the new Minister of Sports. In particular, sports are expected to become more accessible and more popular.

The upcoming replacement of the current acting Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin became known on May 7. The main contender for the post was the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Mikhail Degtyarev. The State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports unanimously supported his appointment.
