For the first time, Thomas Diethart decided to retire in 2018. Then the Austrian decided to take a break from jumping after a series of falls. In his resolution, the 29-year-old only lasted three years.
Diethart returned to jumping in 2021 and even received a call-up to the Summer Grand Prix in Hinzenbach. The Austrian, however, quickly withdrew from his decision and will now act as assistant to the Austrian women’s national team. Diethart will assist first coach Harald Rodlauer, replacing Romed Moroder.
Diethart retired for the second time
This will not be the first for Diethart. In 2019 he worked as a trainer in the Tyrolean Ski Association, and a year later he moved to the Bavarian Ski Association. – The return to jumping was important to find the conclusion of my athlete career. It was also a process of learning a new jumping technique, which will help me in my new job – said the Austrian, quoted by the fis-ski.com portal.
Diethart made his World Cup debut in January 2011. Two years later in Oberstdorf he won his first podium. The best period in the Austrian’s career was the 2013/14 season. It was then that Diethart won the 4-Hills-Tournament and at the Olympics in Sochi he won the silver in the team competition.
