Arena staff in Czech Ostrava removed the Ukrainian flag during the World Hockey Championship match between the national teams of Kazakhstan and Latvia (0:2). The International Hockey Federation (IIHF) reported this to RIA Novosti.

During the broadcast of the meeting, the Ukrainian flag, located next to the Latvian one, was captured in the frame. The IIHF reminded spectators that only national flags of participating countries are allowed in stadiums during the World Cup. “Any other flag will be removed by the administration,” they clarified.

The ban on Russian and Belarusian flags at the World Championships became known on May 8. Fans will be prohibited from bringing any paraphernalia of Russia and Belarus into the stands.

The 2024 World Cup takes place in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 10 to 26. The current world champion is the Canadian team.

The Russian team misses the world championship due to sanctions from the IIHF. A number of European federations also refused to call up players from the Kontinental Hockey League to their national teams.
