Japan confirms diplomatic boycott of Beijing Olympics

Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno has confirmed a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. He announced this at a press conference in Tokyo, reports TASS.

According to the secretary general, Japan at the Games in China will be represented by sports officials, including the chairman of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics, as well as the deputy of the upper house of parliament Seiko Hashimoto.

“The Olympic Games in Beijing will be attended by the chairman of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Hashimoto, and the head of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Yamashita. In addition, the head of the Mori Paralympic Committee will come to the Paralympics in Beijing, ”Matsuno said.

Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Kong Xuanyu, warned of a possible deterioration in relations between the countries if Tokyo joins the diplomatic boycott of the Olympics in 2022. “Unfortunately, some people in Japan attack China’s political system based on their preconceived notions and spread rumors and lies about the human rights situation in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, calling for a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games,” he said.
