The NHL imposed the maximum fine on Russian Zadorov for hitting McDavid in the back
The Department of Player Safety of the National Hockey League (NHL) imposed the maximum fine on Russian Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov. This was reported on the league website.
Zadorov was fined $5,000 for hitting Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid in the back. It is noted that the funds will be sent to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred in the third game of the second round series of the Stanley Cup on May 12. Vancouver won with a score of 4:3 (2-1 in the series). After the final siren, Zadorov pushed McDavid in the back, who at the same time received a hit in the face with a stick from Vancouver defender Carson Soucy. The latter may be disqualified and given a hearing.
Zadorov was traded to Vancouver from the Calgary Flames in December 2023. In the current playoffs, he played nine games in which he scored four goals and gave three assists.
