Details of the death of a 43-year-old Russian Olympic participant have emerged

Triathlete Igor Sysoev died at the age of 43 as a result of injuries received in a traffic accident.

Russian triathlete Igor Sysoev died at the age of 43 as a result of injuries received in a traffic accident. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Russian Triathlon Federation (RFF).

According to the source, the car driven by the athlete drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a heavy truck. Sysoev died on the spot. The passenger who was in the car with him was hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.

The death of Sysoev became known on May 12. The FTR expressed condolences to the athlete’s relatives and friends.

Sysoev took part in two Olympics as a member of the Russian national team. At the 2004 Athens Games he took 15th place, and at the 2008 Beijing Games he took ninth place. Sysoev was the first representative of the domestic men’s triathlon to win the right to compete at the Olympic Games.

Sysoev is the champion of Russia and winner of the European Cup. From 2017 to 2020, he served as head coach of the national triathlon team.
