Kozhevnikov called the Canadian coach Gru, who headed Traktor, a crook
Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov commented on the appointment of Canadian Benoit Groux to the post of head coach of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club Traktor. His words are quoted by Russia-Hockey.ru.
Kozhevnikov said that he was shocked by the appointment and called it ridiculous. “They blatantly removed their coach [Алексея] Zavarukhina. And then some Chelyabinsk experts unanimously began to convince of the greatness of this Canadian rogue,” he said.
Gru took charge of Traktor on May 6. The contract with the specialist is for two years. Zavarukhin, who previously headed the Chelyabinsk team, was offered to remain in the club system and head Chelmet.
Zavarukhin worked at Traktor for one season. Under his leadership, the team reached the semi-finals of the Gagarin Cup, where they lost to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl with a total series score of 0-4.
