Kamensky called the silence about the titles of the Russian national team during the World Cup broadcast stupid
Vice-President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Valery Kamensky appreciated the fact that the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) kept silent about the titles of the Russian national team during the screening of the 2024 World Championship. His words are quoted by Metararings.ru.
“The achievements of our hockey and our national team are a story that has already been written down for centuries, and, of course, it’s stupid that they don’t write about it,” Kamensky said. He added that he did not understand the IIHF’s position.
On May 10, in the middle of the first period of the match between the national teams of Sweden and the USA (5:2), the Russians were not shown among the three most titled national teams in the history of the World Championships. The video broadcast included information only about the teams of Canada, the Czech Republic and Sweden. IIHF President Luc Tardif later called the situation a mistake.
The 2024 World Cup takes place in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 10 to 26. The national teams of Russia and Belarus are missing the tournament due to sanctions from the IIHF.
