IIHF banned hockey player Ivan Fedotov from participating in international tournaments
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has banned Russian goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov from participating in international tournaments. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the organization.
The IIHF decided to ban Fedotov from participating in all competitions of the organization, including the Olympic Games, for three years. The reason was a violation of transfer rules.
On April 23, the Philadelphia National Hockey League club signed a new two-year contract with Fedotov. Previously, he terminated his contract with CSKA Moscow by mutual consent.
In the summer of 2022, Fedotov’s attempt to move to Philadelphia failed. The Russian was supposed to go to the United States, but he was detained on suspicion of evading military service. After this, the athlete served a year in the Navy and resumed his career at CSKA. As a result, the International Hockey Federation fined the Russian Hockey Federation and Fedotov for taking part in Kontinental Hockey League matches with a valid contract with Philadelphia.
