Belgian club, from the same SAF as Vasco, has game postponed due to fan protests

This Tuesday, Standard Liège, owned by 777 Partners – owner of Vasco’s SAF – had its game against Westerlo postponed due to protests by the club’s fans against the company. The team has not won in seven games in the competition.

The bus that took the team’s players to the Sclessin Stadium was prevented from traveling to their destination. In addition to Vasco and the Belgian club, 777 also controls Hertha Berlin, from Germany, Red Star, from France, Melbourne Victory, from Australia, among others.

Standard Liège fans demand that the club be sold again to local investors and not to foreign companies, as is the current case.

The team took its position through an official note, where it apologized to the opponent and the fans present at the stadium for what had happened.

“Our team was blocked in our training center by some fans who decided to prevent the team from entering the stadium, so our club could not participate in the Standard-Westerlo.

Attempts to talk to these fans were unsuccessful, making it impossible to find a solution to break the blockade.

Standard deeply regrets this situation and apologizes to @kvcwesterlo as well as the fans of both teams who were present at the stadium tonight,” the club wrote.
