The eighth stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia is the first day of high mountains of the 107th edition of the race. It is disputed Saturday May 11leaves Spoleto at 12:45 p.m., has 152 kilometers of travel, and ends between 4:57 p.m. and 5:33 p.m. in the Prati di Tivo ski resortwhich is an ascension of 1st category.
“It is characterized by the absence of flat sections,” highlights the organization of the test around this day, which may condition the general classification for several days. The layout presents three scoring ports: the one from 1st in which the stage will conclude, one from 2nd, the Forca Capistrelloat kilometer 37.1, and another in 3rd, Croce Abbio, at kilometer 112.6. Between Forca Capistrello, which is a 16 kilometer climb, and Croce Abbio, the race will pass alongside the mythical Terminillo, before reaching an area of constant ups and downs in which the Capannelle is also ascended. Once Croce Abbio is crowned, participants will begin a descent of almost 30 kilometers, which will take them to the foot of the last ascent.
This one, Prati di Tivo, is no less than 14.5 kilometers, with an average slope of 7% and sections that reach 12%. The pass has 22 tight curves, the organizers specify, and is harder in its initial section, but the last three kilometers maintain the average slope of seven percent that the entire climb has.
