Naomi Osaka said that she is inspired by the way Andrei Rublev hits the ball
Former world number one Naomi Osaka said she watched men’s tennis matches to prepare for the clay tournament in Rome. Her words are quoted by the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
The athlete admitted that she watched Russian Andrei Rublev play. “The way he hits the ball really inspires me,” said the American. She added that she also watched matches involving Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz.
Osaka reached the third round of the WTA tournament in Rome. She will compete for access to the fourth round on May 12 with Russian Daria Kasatkina.
On May 6, Rublev moved from eighth to sixth place in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. The Russian improved his position thanks to a victory at the Masters 1000 series tournament in Madrid, where he beat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final (4:6, 7:5, 7:5).
