Gretzky gave Ovechkin a hint to set a new record

The best sniper and scorer in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) Wayne Gretzky commented on the exit of the Russian striker of the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin, to the fifth place in the number of goals in the league. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Gretzky drew attention to the fact that Ovechkin plays in a good team with strong center-forwards, noting that his love of the game will help him to score again and again. “He needs to be himself, to go out on the ice and give his best 100 percent,” the Canadian prompted the Russian to set a new record and added that Ovechkin as a whole is already doing this.

Earlier on Oct. 14, Ovechkin climbed to fifth in NHL goals in league history thanks to a double in a regular season match against the New York Rangers. The athlete has now scored 732 goals.

After that, the hockey player announced that he was doing his job and using the chances that were given to him. He called it a great honor to be on the sniper list.

The best NHL scorer in history is Gretzky, who scored 894 goals, also in the top three Gordie Howe (801 goals), Jaromir Jagr (766), on the fourth line of the sniper list – Brett Hull (741).
