Italian Dorothea Wierer spoke about the importance of Russia for world biathlon
Italian biathlete, four-time world champion Dorothea Wierer spoke about the return of Russians to international tournaments. Her words are quoted by “Championship”.
“Of course, Russia is a really important country for world biathlon. It seems to me that there is no need to get involved in politics here, let’s leave that to others. It’s not for me to decide, but I think that we will see Russian athletes again at the World Cup,” Wierer said. She added that she follows Russians on social networks and sees that they have a lot of competitions.
Earlier, Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Sleptsova said that the Norwegians missed their Russian rivals. This opinion was shared with her by the coach of the Norwegian national team, Siegfried Maze.
Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international competitions by decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The order came into force in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
