Tarasova criticized the idea of involving female referees in men’s football games
Honored figure skating coach of Russia Tatyana Tarasova appreciated the practice of involving female judges in men’s football matches. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
The specialist criticized this idea. “There are traditions, and they should not be broken. It has never happened before that a woman would referee a match between men’s teams. I think everything is possible in the world, but I would support the tradition,” Tarasova said.
On May 3, Yenisei head coach Andrei Tikhonov was disqualified for criticizing female referee Vera Opeikina. The specialist was suspended for three matches, and two more matches were given a suspended sentence. After an appeal, the disqualification was reduced to one real fight. Tikhonov will miss the rest of the games conditionally.
In the summer of 2021, Russian female referee Anastasia Pustovoitova spoke about the difficulties of working at matches of men’s teams. The referee stated that it is difficult for her to resolve conflicts, since she does not have sufficient authority for male football players.
