Fitness trainer Elena Sobol talked about the dangers of working out in the gym on an empty stomach. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.
According to the specialist, high-intensity training on an empty stomach in the gym can cause the development of unwanted processes. “Due to a lack of carbohydrates, there will be a decrease in blood sugar levels, which will negatively affect the athlete’s well-being. The production of the stress hormone cortisol will increase, which destroys the immune system and promotes the accumulation of fat,” Sobol said.
She also named categories of people for whom training on an empty stomach is contraindicated. According to Sobol, these are pregnant women, people with low blood pressure, problems with blood vessels, and heart problems. Athletes with diabetes and other endocrine diseases should also not train on an empty stomach.
Earlier, fitness trainer Elena Belyaeva named diseases for which it is recommended to refrain from cardio training. According to her, these are oncology, severe cardiac disorders and exacerbation of chronic diseases.
