Nottingham Forest loses appeal and remains four points down in the Premier League table

The Premier League announced this Tuesday that the appeal presented by Nottingham Forest to recover four points in the English Championship was denied. The club owned by Brazilians Murillo, ex-Corinthians and Danilo, ex-Palmeiras, suffered punishment after violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules in the 2022/23 season.

According to this rule, a club’s losses cannot exceed the limit of 61 million euros. Forest would have exceeded this ceiling by €34.5 million. The team argued that the commission that judged the case made a mistake by not considering the sale of a high-level athlete immediately after the evaluation period and that, mistakenly, deducted four points from the team in the classification.

Each of these grounds was rejected by the Board of Appeal, which concluded that the case committee was entitled to impose the sanction it did. The four-point deduction will therefore remain in effect.

With this, Nottingham continues to fight against relegation in the English Championship. Currently in 17th place, Murillo and Danilo’s team has 29 points in 36 games. With two rounds left in the tournament, Forest still face Chelsea and Burnley.
