Ian Nepomniachtchi said that 15-17 percent of chess players play dishonestly
Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi on his YouTube channel named the percentage of chess players in the world who play dishonestly.
According to him, about 15-17 percent of athletes use prohibited equipment and programs to gain an advantage. “It’s very easy to cheat, there are many ways, especially when we’re talking about playing online,” Nepomniachtchi said.
The Russian emphasized that it is very difficult to convict chess players of dishonest play. “I won’t say that it’s completely impossible, but when a person knows what not to do and tries to avoid these red lines, it’s very difficult to catch him,” Nepomnyashchy said.
The Russian took part in matches for the world title twice and was defeated twice. In April, Nepomniachtchi failed to win the Candidates Tournament for the first time in four years and will not compete for the world chess crown for the third time.
