Tarasova believes that six quadruple jumps are not the limit for Ilya Malinin
Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova assessed the chances of American of Russian origin Ilya Malinin to perform the five jump. Her words are quoted by Sport 24.
“I don’t think that six quads is Malinin’s ceiling. If he senses this opportunity for a quadruple jump, he will pursue it. Prospects for Russian figure skaters in the quintuple? None of them have said anything yet,” Tarasova said.
Malinin, the 2024 world champion in men’s single skating, said that he is capable of performing a quadruple jump.
Earlier, the American skater became the first in history to land a quadruple axel in official competitions.
At the end of March, journalist Anatoly Tchaikovsky called on the United States to thank Russia for Ilya Malinin, who won the World Championship. “Malinin skates like our skater. Yes, the Americans should erect a monument to us for such a boy!” – said Tchaikovsky.
