AZ Alkmaar coach Pascal Jansen commented on Spartak’s interest
The coach of the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar Pascal Jansen explained the breakdown of negotiations with Moscow Spartak. His words are quoted by ESPN Goedemorgen Eredivisie.
“It was a really concrete option. But I made a different choice. “Spartak believes that it is advisable for them to work with a coach who knows the Russian league better,” Jansen said.
In mid-April, Spartak fired Spaniard Guillermo Abascal from his post as head coach. He has led the team since the summer of 2022.
On May 1, Spartak made a statement regarding candidates for the post of head coach. The sports director of the Moscow club, Tomas Amaral, said that the coach of the Russian national team and Rostov, Valery Karpin, is not on the short list for the position of coach. In addition, Stanislav Cherchesov is not applying for the post.
