Ukraine opposed allowing Russians to qualify for the 2024 Games
Ukrainian sports authorities sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) demanding that Russian rowers not be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris. This is stated on the official website of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC).
“The IOC recommendations clearly state that teams of athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport cannot be admitted. We ask you to take this information into account and take all possible measures to prevent the participation of teams of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympic qualifications,” the message says.
Nine Russian rowers are scheduled to take part in a qualifying tournament from May 8 to 9, where they will have the opportunity to win licenses to compete at the Olympics in Paris.
In April, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. The ICF said the decision was made after consultation with the international community.
