Atlético de Madrid beats Mallorca for Espanyol, and approaches a place in the Champions League

Mallorca hosted Atlético de Madrid, this Saturday, for the 34th round of the Spanish Championship. With a goal from Riquelme, in the first half, the visitors won 1-0 and came closer to confirming their presence in the next edition of the Champions League.

With the result, Atlético de Madrid reaches 67 points and remains in 4th place. Diego Simeone’s team remains six points ahead of 5th place, Athletic Bilbao, with just four more rounds remaining in the competition. Mallorca continues in the fight against relegation, occupying 16th place, with 32 points, six points above the relegation zone.

Atlético de Madrid returns to the field on Sunday (12), at 11:15 am (Brasília time), when they host Celta de Vigo, in the Spanish Championship. Mallorca hosts Las Palmas, next Saturday, at 9 am, also for Espanyol.

The only goal of the game was scored five minutes into the first half. After a ball was cleared by Mallorca’s defense, Rodrigo Riquelme was left with the ball in the half-moon, cleared the line and hit the corner, with no chance of defense, to guarantee Atlético de Madrid’s victory.
