Ipswich Town move up to the Premier League after 22 years

Ipswich Town finished the Championship season in second place with a 2-0 victory over relegated Huddersfield this Saturday. The result took the ‘Tractor Boys’ to the Premier League after an absence of 22 years.

The team led by Kieran McKenna, a 37-year-old Northern Irish coach, finished just one point behind leaders Leicester, who were already crowned champions before the 46th and final round, in which they lost 2-0 to Blackburn.

Ipswich, a club from Suffolk (east of England) located around 100 kilometers from London, has not competed in the elite of English football since the 2001/2002 season, at the end of which it was relegated.

The last place in the Premier League will be played between four clubs in round-trip playoffs: Leeds (3rd), Southampton (4th), West Bromwich (5th) and Norwich (6th) will compete in the semi-finals before the decision on May 26th, in Wembley.

At the other end of the table, Birmingham City (22nd) are relegated to League One, the third division, as are Huddersfield Town (23rd) and Rotherham United (24th).
