Former Russian figure skater Ivan Desyatov, who left for the USA, spoke about his longing for Russia. His words are quoted by A Divine Sport.
The athlete said that in the USA you can get used to the culture and language, but it is very difficult to be without your friends. “I really miss my friends from Moscow. But I met many Russian-speaking people,” he said. Desyatov added that he communicates with immigrants from Ukraine.
In June 2023, Desyatov explained his departure to the United States. The athlete said that the main reason for the move was the desire to represent himself at the international level, since neither Belarus nor Russia can do this at the moment.
Desyatov performs in ice dancing. Until 2021, he and his partner Ekaterina Andreeva competed for Russia. Then the couple represented Belarus for a year and won the national championship among juniors. In June 2022, he paired up with American Isabella Flores and is now training in the States.
