Butyrskaya said that figure skaters do not like demonstration performances because of the light
World champion Maria Butyrskaya explained the skaters’ dislike for demonstration performances. Her words are quoted by Soviet Sport.
According to the ex-athlete, it is very difficult to perform without normal light, when the spotlight blinds your eyes. “Yes, it looks nice, but we are used to skating in full light, especially when there are difficult elements. With such lighting, coordination is generally disrupted,” Butyrskaya said.
Earlier, coach Alexander Zhulin said that on the day of the free program at the world championships, the skaters were shopping for a “breakaway” after the competition. “Why does everyone skate like pieces of shit at exhibitions? That’s where everyone performs half-drunk,” he noted.
Butyrskaya won the world championship in women’s single skating in 1999. She is also a three-time European champion.
