Tikhonov did not admit guilt in discriminating against a female judge on the basis of gender
The head coach of the Krasnoyarsk “Yenisey” Andrei Tikhonov appreciated the five-match disqualification for criticizing the female referee Vera Opeikina, who worked at the First League match against SKA-Khabarovsk. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
According to the specialist, he was punished for gender discrimination, but he does not admit guilt. “It is important to emphasize that my complaints about the refereeing are not related to the fact that the referee is a woman. If it were a man in her place, I would ask: “Why was a man appointed?” Would I also be punished for discriminating against men?” – asked Tikhonov.
Tikhonov was disqualified earlier on May 3, the decision was made by the RFU CDC. On April 20, Enisey lost away to SKA-Khabarovsk with a score of 0:3. Opeikina’s referee team worked at the game. After the meeting, Tikhonov criticized the referee and called for her to be sent to Makhachkala to train.
Tikhonov has headed Yenisei since January 2024. Krasnoyarsk occupy ninth place in the First League standings.
