Tennis player Medvedev said he could not assess the severity of his hip injury
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev revealed details of the injury received at the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti with reference to AFP.
“In the fourth game, I suddenly felt my hip pop. When the muscles tensed, a spasm occurred. At the end of the set, I deliberately tried to run towards the net, and it hurt. Therefore, there was no point in continuing,” Medvedev said. The tennis player noted that he could not assess the severity of the injury before a medical examination, and did not know how long it would take to recover.
On May 2, Medvedev withdrew from the 1/4 finals of the tournament after the first set, in which he lost to the Czech Jiri Legechka with a score of 4:6. During the meeting, the Russian turned to a physiotherapist several times for help.
Medvedev withdrew from the match for the sixth time in his senior career. The last time this happened was in October 2022 at a meeting with Novak Djokovic.
