Germany abandons bid for 2036 Olympics because of Hitler
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) wanted to submit a bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz advised against doing this, since if he won, the Games would be held 100 years after the Olympics in Berlin, which were held by the Nazis led by Fuhrer Adolf Hitler. TASS reports this with reference to Table.Media.
Memories of Hitler came to Scholz during a meeting attended by Interior Minister Nancy Feser, DOSB board chairman Thorsten Burmester and organization president Thomas Weikert. During the discussion, sports officials put forward the initiative to hold the Olympics in 2036, but after being sent to the 1936 Games, the leaders of German sports became reluctant. As a result, the parties agreed that Germany could qualify for the 2040 Olympics.
It is not yet clear which city could host the Games, but the possibility cannot be ruled out that it will be Berlin.
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris in 2024, in Los Angeles in 2028, and in Brisbane, Australia in 2032.
The Berlin Olympics took place in August 1936. At the end of the Games, the Third Reich, the USA and Hungary won the most medals.
