Hockey coach Andrei Nazarov believed that age is taking its toll on Ovechkin
Russian hockey coach Andrei Nazarov spoke about the decline of Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
“You can’t fool nature. It is very difficult for Sasha to compete in the NHL playoffs with 25-year-old hungry and best guys gathered all over the world. But Ovechkin is not discouraged, we will root for him in any case. Age takes its toll, but that’s the beauty of hockey,” Nazarov said.
In the current Stanley Cup, the Washington Capitals, with Ovechkin in their lineup, are one game away from elimination. The Capitals are losing 0:3 in the best-of-five series to the New York Rangers. Ovechkin has not yet scored a single goal in the playoffs.
Earlier, the Russian forward was criticized by former Washington coach Bruce Boudreau. “Ovechkin physically cannot do what his mind tells him. He has a very high hockey IQ, but he just stands there and doesn’t move,” Boudreau said.
