With goals from Marcos Leonardo and Neres, Benfica overturned Braga by the Portuguese

This Saturday, Benfica hosted Braga, in the 31st round of the Portuguese Championship, and won 3-1, coming from behind. Marcos Leonardo (2) and David Neres scored for the home team, while Ricardo Horta scored for the visitors.

With the victory, the Lisbon team remained in second place, reached 76 points and ended Sporting’s chance of becoming champions in advance this Sunday. Braga’s team, in turn, appears in fourth place, with 62 points.

Benfica’s next match is only scheduled for next Sunday, at 4:30 pm (Brasília time), against Famalicão, in the Portuguese Championship. Braga returns to the field for the competition on the same day, but at 2pm, against Casa Pia.

Braga were the ones who opened the scoring, in the 27th minute of the first half. Djaló made a beautiful move on the right wing and crossed low to Ricardo Horta, who hit it hard into the net.

Benfica equalized 25 minutes into the second half. João Mário shot from outside the area, the ball deflected off the mark and fell to Marcos Leonardo, who, first time, shot across the goal.

David Neres turned the game around for the home team in the 39th minute. In a counterattack, Di María started from the left, crossed into the area and saw the former São Paulo player appear alone to head the ball, without giving the rival goalkeeper a chance to save.

In stoppage time, more precisely in the 49th minute, there was still time for Marcos Leonardo to score another goal. The former Santos player received a throw-in, beat two markers to the body and turned the ball around to score Benfica’s third.
