Portsmouth fans scattered a man’s ashes over the pitch and ruined the turf
Two fans of the English football club Portsmouth scattered a man’s ashes over the field at the team’s home stadium, Fratton Park. The Daily Mail reports this.
The incident occurred after Portsmouth’s match against Barnsley, in which the hosts won with a score of 3:2 and guaranteed themselves a ticket to the Championship, the second-strongest English division. After the final whistle, thousands of fans ran onto the field, and two of them scattered human remains over it.
The actions of the fans, whose names have not been disclosed, ruined the lawn, as the ashes contain calcium and calcium phosphate, which damage the grass. The center circle and one of the penalty areas were especially damaged.
Stadium workers had to urgently replace the turf to prepare it for Portsmouth’s next home match. The club will play in the championship for the first time since 2012. Portsmouth last played in the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2009/2010 season.
