Euroleague basketball referee Bolthouser caught stealing cologne at the airport
Slovenian basketball referee Matej Boltauser, officiating Euroleague matches, was caught stealing cologne at Belgrade airport. Marca reports.
The incident occurred at a Duty Free store in December last year. The referee took a bottle of Tom Ford perfume worth €221 from a shelf and left without paying for it. The incident was caught on video, and Bolthauser was detained by airport security.
The judge admitted guilt and repented of his actions; he refused to comment. Bolthauser, 49, has been working Euroleague matches, Europe’s premier club basketball tournament, since 2003. After the incident was publicized in the media, the organizers of the competition opened a disciplinary case against the referee.
In February 2022, the Euroleague decided to temporarily suspend Russian clubs from the tournament. After this, CSKA, UNICS and Zenit were disqualified, and their results were annulled.
