O Bayern Munchen can no longer be champion of the German Championship, but managed to secure a place in the next Champions League. The team beat Eintracht Frankfurt this Saturday 2-1, at the Allianz Arena, in the 31st round of the competition. Kane scored the goals for the Bavarians, and Ekitike scored for the visitors.
The victory gives Bayern a place in the next Champions League. The team occupies second place with 69 points, and Borussia Dortmund – the first team outside the G-4 – has no mathematical chance of overtaking the Bavarian team, as it was defeated by RB Leipzig 4-1, also this Saturday. With the defeat, Frankfurt, in turn, remains in sixth place with 45 points won.
Bayern turns the key and now focuses on the first game of the Champions League semi-final, which takes place this Tuesday, against Real Madrid. Frankfurt returns to the field next Sunday, against champions Bayern Leverkusen, in the German Championship.
Kane opened the scoring for Bayern just nine minutes into the first half. After Laimer’s run, the English striker only had the job of pushing the ball into the back of the net.
But Frankfurt responded quickly and tied the game in the 23rd minute. Ekitike got rid of the marking and hit from outside the area to beat Neuer.
In the second half, at 14 minutes, Muller was brought down in the area and the referee signaled a penalty for Bayern. Kane converted the charge and put the home team back in front of the scoreboard. It was the 35th goal for the Englishman, top scorer in the German Championship.
After the second goal, Bayern remained calm to leave the field with the victory and a place in the next Champions League.
