This Saturday, at the Olympic Stadium in London, Liverpool and West Ham played a great duel, which ended in a 2-2 draw, in the 35th round of the English Championship. Robertson and Soucek (own goal) scored the visitors’ goals, while Bowen and Antonio found the net for the home team.
With the draw, Liverpool wasted the opportunity to touch the English lead. The team led by Jurgen Klopp occupies third place with 75 points and has one game more than leaders Arsenal and two more than runners-up Manchester City.
West Ham remains in eighth place with 49 points. However, the team can still be overtaken in this round if Chelsea wins their game.
Both teams return to the field next Sunday, in the English Championship. Liverpool face Tottenham, while West Ham face Chelsea.
The first half was balanced and had good scoring chances for both sides. But it was West Ham who came out ahead on the scoreboard. In the 43rd minute, Bowen, after a corner kick, went up alone and headed the ball in to open the scoring.
Having lost the game, Liverpool returned from the dressing room with a different attitude for the second half. After three minutes, full-back Robertson, as if he were a striker, hit Aréola’s counterfoot and tied the duel.
Liverpool turned the game around in the 20th minute. After a corner kick, Gakpo took a completely aimless shot, but the ball deflected off Ogbonna and Soucek, and ended up in the back of the net.
The visitors had the opportunity to increase the score and win the match, but the third goal did not come. The punishment came in the 32nd minute. Bowen, scorer of the first goal, found Antonio free in the penalty area. The attacker headed the ball in and left everything the same once again.
Liverpool launched an attack in the final minutes in search of a third goal, but the score remained the same.
